Grab your smartphone and open your calendar…Here comes summer!

Time to plan the things you just have to do and see on your days off this season.

River Views and Music: West Fairmount Park

Experience the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, one to the country’s top outdoor music venues. Plan a date to enjoy music at the Mann, at 5201 Parkside Avenue. There are so many upcoming performances that you really have to see the list for yourself! No matter what kind of musical arts you love, come hear what summer sounds like in Philly.

Hike or bike along the East Side of Schuylkill River. Take Kelly Drive along the four-mile pathway from Art Museum to East Falls. Enjoying the views of the river along Boathouse Row, you’re in Philly, and yet you’re in another world.

Central Philly and Rittenhouse Row

See the people. Enjoy an evolving, flowing water art installation. Feel the heart-of-the-city verve of Dilworth Park. Take in the sights on the West Side of City Hall. Summertime city sights include the sheer joy of kids play in the fountain. Sounds include plenty of outdoor entertainment.

And summer isn’t summer without a walk along Rittenhouse Row. Lined with 200+ stores, hotels and spas, galleries and businesses, it spans from Broad to 21st Street and from Spruce to Market Street. Public events range from monthly networking to seasonal festivals. Dine al fresco at one of the many sidewalk cafés. Find out what’s happening at Rittenhouse Row.

All Around the Art Museum Area

If you’ve not been to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, pick a Wednesday. It’s open late, and you can enjoy yoga in the gallery. There is no mandatory admission fee. It’s “pay what you wish” from 5 to 8:45 p.m. The gallery serves refreshments and you’ll have evening access to the art galleries. The Museum is located at 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

And don’t miss Fairmount Avenue, leading from the Art Museum to Broad Street. It's brimming with local cafés, shops and great dining spots that sparkle on summer nights.

Old City’s Summer Joys

Elfreth’s Alley, off 2nd Street, is always a hit. It’s even more special on June 1st, which is Fete Day 2019. With its cobblestone streets and beautiful doorways, Elfreth’s Alley is one of the most photographed streets in the city.

Reserve some space on your calendar for First Fridays in Old City. On each month’s first Friday, Old City’s galleries, studios, and shops are open to admirers. Most of the galleries are free to enter, too.

Franklin Fountain, at 116 Market Street, is the place for an ice cream, served with plenty of blasts from Philly’s past. And Spruce Street Harbor Park, on Columbus Boulevard, has been called one of the best urban beaches in the country! Visit in summer to enjoy plenty of pop-up festivals, musical performances, food trucks, games and roller skating.

The Sights and Sounds of Northern Liberties

Catch a cool show at a club. Like Union Transfer. Go west to 1026 Spring Garden Street and see what’s happening, or just look at the murals.

And plan to hang out at the 2nd Street Festival on the weekend of August 4th. It’s pretty informal. Just over a decade back, bartenders and restaurateurs from the Standard Tap and other Northern Liberties hotspots closed the street and put bands and beer outside. Today you’ll see upwards of 30,000 people from Spring Garden Street to Girard Avenue, coming to see dozens of bands play on four stages at the 2nd Street Festival.
